Case Study: The Centre for Disability Studies, Rochford, Essex

The Centre for Disability Studies is an eco-building providing 558 square metres of operational headquarters for the charity Disability Essex. It also functions as the charity’s main training centre providing support focused around assisting disabled people to enter the work place.
North Chelmsford
Area Action Plan
The North Chelmsford Area Action Plan was referred to Inspire East's design review service in June 2009, and deals with new neighbourhoods in two areas of Chelmsford.
Stambridge Mills Case Study
Rochford is situated on the small River Roach. Historically, the town’s principal trade was in corn: in 1850, 45% of the town’s working population were employed in agriculture, with much of the local produce being transported by vessels from the mills and quay at Stambridge.
The Three Rivers Way Association
An Inspire East Enabler worked with the Three Rivers Way Association to help them learn lessons from what has been achieved so far and to plan for the future. A key part of the assignment was the delivery of a Planning and Delivery Workshop attended by a number of important local stakeholders.

CABE announces new design review network
The Network will create a national network of design review panels, providing all local
planning authorities with access to independent practical design advice. The network
(including CABE) will collectively review more than 800 schemes a year.

CABE have produced a good practice guide that demonstrates the benefits of Design Review and provides lessons for anyone running, or considering setting up, a design review panel.
