Inspire East is the regional centre of excellence for sustainable communities in the East of England.
We champion the creation of high quality places to live, work and visit.
Our aim is to deliver the knowledge, skills and advice that will inspire you to use and apply best practice. We work across the region in rural and urban areas.
Our four aims are to:
- Create sustainable communities by promoting better community and physical development in regeneration areas and areas of growth
- enhance the skills required by sharing knowledge, information and experience, and working closely with training providers
- improve the quality of projects through benchmarking and sharing best practice
- influence and guide policy for sustainable communities.
Inspire East delivers these aims through a series of programmes. We are currently running five programmes:
Excellence Framework
Inspire East maintains an on-line toolkit that encourages an holistic approach to sustainable communities and champions excellence through promoting national standards of best practice. The toolkit is supported through a series of courses and seminars that promote cross-disciplinary learning.
Design Review service
Inspire East runs a regional Design Review Panel. This was developed with CABE to complement CABE's national panel and provides peer support support to schemes that meet our regional significance criteria. The panel draws on nationally recognised experts from across the sustanable communities professions - architects, urban designers, planners, transport planners and community & regeneration specialists. The panel members can also be used to produce short best practice notes, facilitate workshops and speak at events.
Enabling service
The Enabling service provide tailored support to schemes when they need it. We can draw from a panel of experts that can address both technical areas - housing, transport, community development etc - and process issues - procurement, project management, organisational development. Again, the service mirrors CABE's national service and can work in tandem with our design review service.
Community empowerment
Inspire East leads the regional empowerment partnership. We have a comprehensive action plan, funded by Commuities and Local Government and Improvement East, through which we are providing a comprehensive support package to support all people involved in empowering communities. The action plan promotes better knowledge and understanding, learning from best practice to improve skills and change behaviours.
CURE (Capacity for Urban Renaissance in the East)
CURE is an organisational development programme we are delivering on behalf of Regional Cities East. The programme will develop new initiatives that will enhance capacity and skills and provide more intelligent ways of delivering the growth agenda in the Regional Cities East local authorities - Southend, Peterborough, Luton, Ipswich, Norwich and Colchester.
